It is a bump stop for the underfolder when folded against the lower handguard so the outer lip does not wear a grove. I have it on my Polish, Yugo, Hungarian and Chinese folders in my possesion. No rubber goes there.

Regatding underfolders....it is unofficial but this is what we used it for during my service years. |
