Bought an postban RML back in 92 and the very skinny ground off threads in front of the FSH have bothered me forever.  What can I do about this? Put an AK-74 FSH on it and make it an AK-100 series clone perhaps with some modern furniture ?  Rebarrel? Any other ides?  Who else faces this dilemma? Thanks.

I think Global makes a device/sleeve that can take a 1x28 threaded barrel and sleeve it up to the standard '47 thread pattern, but I'm not sure. I have a similar problem that I'm slowly working on.

You can thread the barrel 1/2-28 and use any muzzle brake that will fit a AR-15.
One of these AK-74 style brakes threaded for 1/2-28 would look good on a RML.

Back in the mid 1990's I threaded my RML's barrel 1/2-20 and made a slant muzzle brake for it. Since then I have made a 1/2-20 to 14x1mmLH adapter and mounted a Krinkov muzzle brake on it.
