I am looking two replace the two romy 5.56 rifles I had, I almost got a norinco, but decided it was to much $$$. I was thinking of getting a saiga conert for $700.00. But I can a vepr .223 here for 550.00. I like the idea of folding stocks, flash hiders, bayo lugs etc., but you cant easily get those on a vepr. Can the vepr shoot 5.56 as well, do they use any .223 mag bulgy, 74 mods, weiger etc..
Is the vepr the best way to go for the money? Thanks

The Vepr can use 5.56 ammo and the 5.56 bulgy mags and the AK74 conversion mags. In my opinion they are the best for the money and I would go for it.

Mine is about 2moa on Wolf/Barnaul and 1.5moa on fancy match stuff, and takes the Harris bipod great for bench plinking.
Only a few range trips so far, but runs 100% on Beryls, rarely leaves 1 in the mag with the converted bake that came with it, and may leave 1-3 in the Bulgy waffle mag. If you can build, the Yugo kits at ORF are very nice, and if I had not found happiness with the VEPR K before those kits turned up with Chromed bores.... |

Good choice with the 74+ RPK! Modding the bakes just takes mags, followers from robarm, maybe a bit of filing under the front of the feed lips to get the exit angle just right, and truck bedliner paint.

Yeah I always read about this GA vepr mafia stuff and thought to myself whatever, but I have seen the light for the money(other than colloecting) why would you buy annthing else. Is it worth it to skeletonize the stock, what do you use a dremel?

Congrats on the Vepr you made a great choice. Who needs a pencil barrel and munchkin stock?. Not me.

Yep, at a shoot last week I went thru 60rnds rather fast and was able to show OrangeNeck that he could briefly hold the gun by the muzzle end of the bbl with no burning at all.
All hail the heavy barrell!!!!!
