How accurate are they? I'm not looking for a tack driver, but something a bit more accurate than my Romanian SAR1 at 200 yards.

18" Barreled gets around 3.5MOA with Aussie .308.
22" Barreled cuts that down to 2.5MOA. Note:The guns can do better, This was with open sights, I am going to try with a PSO 6X scope I picked up next time out. |

the 16" barrel on my saiga .308 can do alot better then 3.5 moa. at 100 yards i got it to 1moa with aussie just this past saturday. thats counting all 8 rnds.
i was using a 8-32x bsa scope. the shorter barrel should be more accurate due to less barrel whip. |

the Saiga can certainly hold its own against the M1A under 500 yards.
What's more important is that you can take the extra $1000 and learn to shoot it really well, and that's really what counts. |

my iss the 16'' sagia with POS 8x 42 scope added harris bipod at 200 yards my shoots 2'' MOA with supluss ammo. rifle cost $227 with tax scope cost $130 bipod cost $80 camo job on stock set cost $20 buck rifle loaded less $500

Not just Yea, but Hell Yea. Best deal on the market. Convert it to AK stock and trigger group legally, and you have a accurate, reliable, quality 308 for about $300.00

I have a couple of the 308s one is converted and one is wood stocked, both with the long barrels. I shoot plates starting out at 300 yds at the club I belong to. The 300 yard plate we used this week is 10" across and 18" tall. The Saiga with Portugese 308 ammo will wack it easily every shot with it's open sights. I have to use a plate that size because I can't see anything smaller at that distance.
I think the Saiga 308 is the best bargain out there. I sure like the ones that I have. |

If you get a chance, pick up a Saiga and then quickly a Vepr in same barrel length/caliber configuration to compare. Weight is the biggest difference I see between my 16" Saiga .308, my 16" Saiga .223, and my 20" 7.62x39 Vepr. My Vepr has a heavier barrel and is front heavy. I am tired after 20 offhand shots with it.
If you can live with the reduced velocity and sight radius/effectiveness from 16" over 20" barrels the Saiga is probably a better buy. A heavier stiffer barrel at the 20" length like the Vepr seems to have will help with extended range sessions using a rest. Generally the longer 20" barrel will increase your effective hunting range with iron sights given same accuracy. |

Is there really that much barrel whip with a 22" barrel? Enough to make a difference?
Sure, I imagine that the stout 16" barrel would do well for accuracy. It just seems like such a waste of powder and range potential to use that short of a barrel. Not to mention the huge fireball out the front. It would be fun during the day, but a significant inconvenience in lower light. Maybe I'm wrong, and the 16" barrel really is ideal. What kind of effective range could one expect from the 16" barrel? |

The 22" Saiga shoots just fine. After sending 60 rounds down range zeroing in the scope, I stapeled this TARGET down range @ 100 yards. First shot was aimed at the upper left bulb where X marks the spot. (the threaded base) It's 1-1/16 off. From there on I adjusted my point of aim to the filament. All further shots were within one inch. This was fired from a stock out of the box Saiga .308, benchrested with a Pso 8x42 scope using Port. Surplus ammo dated '79.
You will not go wrong with either legenth barrel, IMO. Great rifle at a bargain price. |
