Just placed an order for a SAR-2 from AtlanticFirearms.com. Are they much different than other ak's furniture wise?

I am not familiar with Atlantic, but the SAR-2 would be the same from pretty much anyone as they are all built in the same place. Typicaly, the furnature is better in the newer models than the older ones.

Older models looked like a drunk monkey dipped them in varnish.  The newer models tend to have a much nicer varnish finnish on them (the monkey is now sober), but is still not the best.  It should be passable if it is a new one.  If not, pick up a polymer set from K-Var, or sand it down and refinnish it.  there is some really nice lloking wood under the varnish.

I changed out the furniture on my Sar 1 2003 edition, 2 months after buying it. I bought a green 1 1/4" extended US stock kit from KVAR.
Check them out at:

Makes the gun look really cool and a little extra length is nicer for shooting.
