Which drums are better,  ratchet or winding? I just bought a ratchet style (Romanian) and of course after I bought it I hear that they are not very good. I haven't really heard why, just that they are bad? Anybody have any input?

I have a Chinese 75rd drum. While I have never used a Romanian drum yet, I know that I`ll prefer the Chinese drum.

The Chinese Drum you open up the back, press the spirng release and wind it until the follower stops. Then you drop 7.62x39rds in (like a Thompson drum) place. Close the back over and wind the drum up. This process takes way less time and is easier on your thumbs.

The Romanian Drum you have to press the ratchet down for each round that you put in. Now I`ve never used this type o drum yet, but already I like the Chinese drums better.

However the Romanians are more common than the Chinese drums.

Hope this helps.

I ordered the drum from Cope Distributing and I thought it was the kind you open up to load (chinese), it didn't have much of a description so I was unaware what kind it was. I'm still wet behind the ears on these AK'S and acc. I haven't tried it out yet, but as long as it functions properly then I'll be happy. Trial and error I geuss.
