Should I purchase a couple of barrels for my AK's?  One has a chrome lined the Yugo m70 does not, but has a new barrel,  I have over 20,000 rounds ( this is just some of it).  Will I need to replace the barrels before I run through this ammo?

You should be fine, just don't bump fire like crazy.  You should get some Golden Tiger to round out the stash.

That's what I have in the ammo cans.  I bought it from AIM back when it was like $90 something/1000

Will they still "work" after 10,000 rounds each? Most likely.

Would I replace my barrels after (or before) 10,000 rounds each? Yes.

A new barrel is less tan $100. Why not have a couple?

Just buy another AK.

I'll help your fund along by buying a case of that FMJ Wolf.

I thought AKM's were rated for a life of 50-70K rounds.

That ammo aint gonna do ya much good in a cardboard box.

I read somewhere that 1k of ammo will wear about .001" of barrel.

You have about .008" of rifling -- So plan accordingly.

{edit -- I think they were talking about throat, in an un-chromed bbl.}

Just for the record...I hate you.

Those pictures are like my wet dream. Damn but I have to find a way to get more money. On my budget I agonize over accessories.

Never visited Florida. Do you happen to go away leaving that area unlocked? And if so can I have directions to your house?

Seriously though this may sound strange but I think I would tack an American flag or patriotic sticker somewhere around your stash. The way things are today if some wingnut saw that they might think, "Jihadis!" Props to you for a good solid collection of necessaries.

Cheers,
RWB64

But again I did mention I hate you, right?

Yes they will wear out.  You should replace them after every 1k of rounds put down the barrel.

Get off on the first exit and go about 9 miles until it dead ends.  Take a right go another 6 mile hang a left at the store go to the first road to your left, take a left there.  I am the thrid house on the left.  I leave the house unlocked.

It’s a reloading bench made from one of these kits.  Some of the best $53.97 I've spent (not including the wood).  It is rock solid.

I've got 12k + rds thru a Polytech that I bought almost 20 years ago.

Shoots the same as it ever did.

There is a guy over on glocktalk that is claiming 33K rounds through a MAADI purchased new in 1999.  Says he has never cleaned or lubed it, and hasn't noticed an accuracy change.

I don't guess I will worry about it then.  If it shoot two hundred a month this will last me 9 years.  By the time I go through all this, I will probably be to old and blind to know the difference anyway.

If you're worried about outshooting your AK, get a few replacement parts kits and receivers, cover them in Cosmo, and bury them someplace to satisfy your hoarding instinct.

There's a yugo AK that was in service over there that had somewhere around 80k before it died completely.

well since you are also in Pa.---head over my way and I will save you some barrel life.  Maybe I would replace the bbl. on one of them after I shot 10K rounds.....depends how you shoot-----buy an extra parts kit or bbl...but they should last a loooong time. I have a feeling if the SHTF and you were burning through that kind of ammo accuracy wouldn't be your primary concern

In 1990 I bought my first MAK-90 and it would shoot 4" groups at 100 yards with Chinese surplus ammo. In 1996 I stopped counting how many rounds had been fired in that rifle at 8500. Since then I have fired several thousand more rounds throught it. Mostly bump fired out of 75 and 100rd drums and the last time checked  accuracy in 2000 it wouold still shoot 4" groups at 100 yards with Chinese surplus ammo.
So I wouldn't even worry about changing barrels just buy a cheap Romanian AK rifle to take some of the pressure off your other rifles if you are worried about wearing barrels out.

Wollfox,
I have a question about the Wolf ammo. I notice in the pic that there are 3 different styles of printing on the cases of ammo.
Are they different types of Wolf ammo or were they produced in different years?
Did you buy the ammo over time or all at one time?

BrianLake,
Same questions?

Brian,

I've purchased this ammo over the last 4 years.  The most recent are the four at the bottom left.  I still had one more box coming in which came in yesterday.  I wish I had purchased it all four years ago.  I could have saved some bucks.  I think ammo prices are about as low as they are ever going to be.  Have nothing to judge that on other then once they get the price up and people are still purchasing it, it's not coming down much if any.  I have probably purchased my last round of 7.62x39 (unless it comes down a bunch).  The way I shoot this will last me 9 yrs easy.  I get to go out and shoot once a month and usually shoot 200 rnds of each .223, 7.62x39 and 22.  Not including handguns.  I'd hate to me the person just getting into shooting with the ammo prices the way they are.  I have an equall amount of .223 and I reload, so I'm OK on my AR's.

Yes.  All you have to do is remove the barrel pin and push the barrel out.

Thanks for the info apparently Wolf didn't follow the pattern I exspected of simple one color printing being the earlist produced, followed by adding graphics(wolf pic),and then adding color as the latest produced cases of Wolf ammo.

Maybe, I'll get there one day.  I only have enough food for 5 months.  I do however have a well and a generator to pump enough water that my 100 gals of fuel will pump.  Not sure how much water that is?  Maybe I could sell water on the roadside for food?

Ak barrels are hammer forged, which is much stronger than standard 4150 chrome lined. Plus 7.62 is not a barrel burner. You'll get about 35K rounds through each barrel before needing replacement.
