It can and has been done , but it's not a simple task.
The brake is pinned , and I believe also silver soldered on. The barrel section underneath it is not suitable in size for standard AK threading, You could install a new front sight base which is threaded for a muzzle device. Actually , unless you really HATE the look of the brake - it does a good job of flash suppression as is (apparently the BATF never actually TESTED it  ), and also reduces recoil.
