Yea that's becuase it's made for an RPK kit.. Althought it isn't a complete Russian plum RPK furniture, it's lacking the original pistol grip and ribbed upper handguard.

I wasn't aware that all of them had a ribbed gas tube cover, but that's cool.

I've got two of the sets from K-Var to go on my Romanian RPK builds.  I actually like the smooth gas tube cover better, and the pistol grip makes no difference to me - I'm glad it's US, truth be told - one less part to have to dink around with.

FYI - the lower handguard will most likely NOT fit on a normal AK - it's wider, designed for the RPK heavy barrel.
