You mean steel jacketed bullets?
Or steel core? I know at the indoor range I shoot at, you can not shoot steel jacket or steel core ammo. It damages the plates downrange. I suspect that the shooting/training schools you are talking about don't allow steel jacket or steel core ammo because it will damage the steel plates not to mention the the bullets will penetrate farther into the backstops or surrounding items.... |

i believe he is refering to steel cases in which case the only reason i see is so the dont have to sort the brass out in order to reload or sell

I think the drug runner got it. If by schools you mean shooting schools then many use steel plates as targets and they don't want them turned into swiss cheese.
A friend brought his /30-06 garand to Front Sight NV for their tactical rifle class and they wouldn't let him shoot his Korean surplus ammo. They claimed it was steel core and made him buy Federal American Eagle brand at their grossly inflated prices. |
