Under the AK reference forum there is a thread The BIG AK FAQ thread.  It lists some of the good ones, a couple not so good and some that have fallen by the wayside.

besides Inrange here are some of the good ones on the list in no particular order.

AK-USA
AZ Expert Arms
Red Stick Firearms
Coyote Gulch Armory
The Firing Line
Global Military Gunsmithing
Sledgehammer Arms
Investment Grade Firearms
Krebs Custom

I would say Marshall Arms is the best in the bunch.

Here's a few builds from Arizona Expert Arms:

And the web site:

Derek really knows his weapons pretty much regardless of type, and yeah I'm co owner so I am biased.
But honestly you can't go wrong with any of the builders mentioned above.
Some specialize more in certain weapons, and others might just be better for you just because they're closer.
One thing though, be prepared for a wait, good things take time.

Can anyone attest to the quality in each smiths conversion and how they stack up against each other?

Thanx.

AK-USA

Elite Firearms
The Firing Line
Global Military Gunsmithing
InRange

Marshall Arms
Newton Firearms
Ohio Rapid Fire
Red Stick Firearms
Sledgehammer Arms

I believe some of those were not actually in my quote and I left them out for a good reason.

Elite Firearms, numerous issues.

Ohio Rapid Fire as far as I know no longer does builds for individuals, someone can correct me if I am wrong.

Newton Firearms not taking on new builds currently .

As for Marshall Arms, he is local to me and I saw some of his work some years ago and it is great.  I believe he does not do builds on US receivers except the Firing Line ones but that may have changed.  Long wait time.

AZ Expert Arms as stated by Gunslinger808, does excellent work, did some work on two AR's for me.  I saw a number of AK's he built for people and they were great.

Never heard any complaints about Coyote Gulch, Sledgehammer Arms, Red Stick Firearms, Blackwell Industries, Global Military Gunsmithing.

mcarms.com, all the pictures look nice and the prices seem reasonable.

Most of the others all have excellent reviews but seem to be at the higher end of pricing the last I looked, of course website pricing tends to be outdated.
