What needs to be modified on a Norinco 84S .223 rifle in order to use Weiger .223 mags? Has anybody done this for their Chinese rifles? If I mill the sides of the front lip region, it appears that it may be too thin to hold for any long term use. I was thinking that I should open the mag well portion of the receiver but wasn't sure.

The Chinese section and magazine forums do not get nearly as much attention as the AK General discussion so I posted it here.

thanks,
Ron

Tag as I just traded to get a .223 Norinco from MeanSteve.

Cool... we will have to go plinking with these toys then. If we can find an answer, then we can pick up a supply of mags for our kits for a fair price. I just ordered a 10-pack of them from InterOrdnance for my SAR3. If the Weigers do work for a Norinco, then I will be ordering another 10-pack.

thanks,
Ron

Ron,

You're going to have to open up the magwell a little with a file for the Weigers to work.  If you decide to do it, go very carefully and see where the mags touch before filing down the areas.

First rule of any modification is to always grind on the cheaper part. In this case it would be the mag. Do not destroy the value of a gun to make it work for mags it was not designed for.
