I'm picking up my first AK, a lightly used SAR-1.

I am in the process of picking up a wire side folder - anything I need know before I install?

Not much at all. That is an easy swap. Removing your SAR wood buttstock may give you a fit. You usually have to pound it out by smacking on the butt stub from inside the receiver. I usually use a socket extension and hammer. Good job on the folder. You will enjoy it.

I'm excited.  Buddy bought it three years ago and ran @ 200 round thru it and put it in the safe.

He's replaced the original wood with black synthetic furniture, so my hope is he's already fought the battle with the wood stock.

Not sure how well the wire folders shoot (how DO you get a cheek weld?)  but they look very cool.

The deal is SAR-1, two sets of furniture (wood & synth), 6 mags (4-30's and 2-40's), sling and an unknown number of wolf bi-metal  for $325.

I have a wire folder on my *cough* *cough* WASR. I'm 6' tall and don't really get a cheek weld with the stock. I can still shoot great with the iron sights.
