Just curious to see how many have 5.56NATO AK's?? I used to own all 7.62x39 guns for years but made the switch to 5.56 AK's so I have ammo compatibility with my AR's and take advantage of long term US surplus if need arises or if imported ammo is restricted. Problem is the magazines and parts of course for the time being until the market catches back up.

You can use the standard 74 mags but will need a follower from Robar and then just dremel the foward section where the neck of the round sits- these work fine, I have about twenty or so. However I like the original 5.56 Waffles so I got fifteen of those just in case. Yah I'm sick!!!!

Nice Russian Sidefolder kit- was that a Romanian when it started out?

I wish I could post some pics of mine on here but don't really know how to- would be happy to foward some to one of you guys who could do so maybe start the 5.56 AK picture thread. I love the 7.62 and 5.45 guns but I have AR's and got tired of buying so many different calibers.

I've got a Norinco 84S2.  It was made for the Canadian market. Thats why it has the 20" long barrel. The BETA mag works great. I made a new tower for it from an orange bakelite 74 mag.

Nice comment to about my dad's basement jerking to soldier of fortune- sick fucker you got problems. It's guns and ammo damnit! They let you around all those guns over there yet you can't even change out an FAL barrel or let alone change the oil in your truck. Ha.

Say what you will! but I bought 2 wasr-3's and having a ball! could'nt find or buy a SAR3 and these where available for a cheap price and I don't regret buying them at all!
great little AK's ,functions great, reliable, low recoil( great for my kids and me), super accurate !and I can take shooting with my AR15 and never bring different ammo, and ,223 is always available,A great bang for the buck!
I have threaded the barrels for comp's and addad a cobra collimator sight , romy handguard and grip ,and romy side folder to 1 of them, the other is all original with a romy handle,

Izhmash Saiga came out with 30rd magazines for the Saiga 7.62x39...

Even if it was in small quantity.

.223 never made it to the USA.....

I wonder if anyone in Russia actually used .223 Sporter Saigas?

I could see 7.62x39 30rd mags..i get that one...

But what if there are 30rd .223 Saiga mags out there?

I want some!

I'm another guy with a BWK-92. I put black plastic furniture on mine-- looks like Mak's now, only-- well-- black. No flash hider yet; I'll probably thread it for an AK74 brake. I picked up a bunch of the Chinese mags when they were cheap (relatively), so no problem there-- though I since found out that the Bulgy plastic waffles fit just fine, so I picked up a couple. They look great on the gun. Wish I had some pix of it.

ETA: Did I mention that it is one of my very favorite rifles? And I have a bunch of rifles.

I was thinking about picking at least one AK up in 5.56, but can't seem to find any...what's happened to them all?
Where's a decent place?

Hey Scot,

What kind are you looking for?  I might be able to get you an Arsenal SA M-5, if my distributor has them in stock.  Talk to Commando223 about the details.

Mine had black furniture on it at one time also.  I have a number of the 15 rd mags for $14.00 from CDNN which they have in stock again but for $30.00  I got my 30 rd mags from guys here on the site for less than that.  I also have some 5 rd mags which can supposedly have the follower cut down and take 20 rounds. I picked them up at gunshows for $10-$15.  I have found that some of the Bulgy mags work sometimes with no fitting or some reduction at the back to clear mag well, some don't work at all and are sold off.  I have some mag plates that fit the Bulgy waffle mags for compliance.

The front has a US pin on AK-74 brake.

The picture is not that good of the FH but it's called a preditor. Similar in design to the AR phantom. Got it from Ace Ltd. I did the full conversion on the rifle in 2002 and the FH is welded onto the sleeved extension of the fsb. I've decided to leave it as is since it didn't affect the accuracy of the rifle.

What sort of accuracy do you guys get out of your 5.56 AKs , at say 100M ?

Can the Arsenal SA M5's use the Steel AK mags?

The steel mag you see in my K-101 is a Weiger mag.  It required modification to the front reinforcement.  This entailed grinding off .030" off of each side and they fit and function flawlessly.  Beings the K-101 uses a Arsenal of Bulgaria receiver I assume that it would be almost exactly like the SA M5.  I would buy one and try it.

TNX, no offense, but the price is important, as I don't want to pay for a 5.56 AK, as much as I've paid for my AR's....I already have a few AK in 7.62x39, but just thought I might get one in 5.56 Nato to make it a bit more ammo compatible...

Who has them available, prices, best, for the price, etc....I can't seem to find many availabe on the web?

TNX in advance.

The Krinkov and the AK-102 receiver are both 5.56 Firingline MLS99 side-folding receivers.  They are originally made for Bulgy triangle folders, and I had Firing Line mod them to work with the AK-100 series stocks.  I really love those stocks!

I have to say those are really sweet. Firing Line makes an excellent reciever, was thinking about purchasing a WASR 3 to dismantle and re-assemble onto a firing line reciever then use an front sight/gas block register as an SBR but with the sidefolder 100 series. I have a stamped 5.56 sidefolder now but really those milled guns look great!!!
