I wonder the same thing.  I'm sanding my SA-85 kit wood and would like to stain it to make it look original.  Anyone done this yet?

There is no stain on the Hungarian stock It's just elm wood with a clear varnish finish.  You may want to think about boiled linseed oil and then a clear polyurethane top coat.

Your wood there looks like walnut.  It be hard to make it look like elm.  Good luck.

+1 Walnut won't look like elm.  It will be much darker no matter what you put on it.
