The 223 poly uses its own unique mag,, true you can mod norinco mags, but as for dropping right in and locking they dont..

Chinese mags work in any AK, the .223 mag is different than the rest. Ive owned and own right now quite a few Norinco 84S AKs. As far as regular 7.62 mags...no problem either way...chinese in euro or euro in chinese...its all good. Heres some Chinese PreBans and mags....... 762x39..net

OK.  Thanks, fellas.  I was in a gun store today, discussing the possibility of purchasing a Polytech AK (7.62x39).  The clerk told me I was just "screwing" myself if I did because Polytechs only accept Polytech mags!

That's why I'm posting here.  I know you fellas are more knowledgeable about these things.

Thank you.

Bud

I have a pre-ban Polytech, 100% original, and I have used it with a Chinese mag, 2 steel Polish mags and 2 polymer Polish mags. It will use whatever the heck you want to cram into it that is in 7.62x39mm.

It is an EXCELLENT GUN, you will love it, especially if it has the spike bayonet (mine does).

I don't think he was being malicious.  From what I'm getting here, he probably got confused between the .223 and the 7.62.  In fact, I was just on another site and saw some Polytech mags, in .223, going for $150.00 per mag!

ETA: "Q-gunner2,

Yes, it's the type with the underfolder bayonet!

LOL...now that guy is nuts and a flat out ripoff...i just bought 2  30 round .223 mags for $20 each. Most Ive ever paid was $35 but if you look around you can find them cheaper.

Were these  Norinco mags? It's not that uncommon to find .223 Norincos at that price, but if you bought .223 Polytech mags for that price you got an excellent buy. The .223 Polytech mags usually sell in the $75.00 range from what I've seen.

Aww dude.. Very nice indeed.  I bet the guy behind the counter just wanted to get you out of the store so HE could buy the thing.

Oh fudge, only I didn't say fudge.

That was one rifle that I wasn't able to find before getting sentenced to stationed in California...

Oh well, only a few more years!

Good luck, hope you can get it.

LOL, your first mistake was blieveing anything a guy working in a gunstore had to say.  He is earning $8 an hour to to sell guns.  Most guys here could earn more an hour just using the EE all day!

I don't consider it a mistake.  He made a comment...I wanted verification.
