I am getting that screw build AK off Duke here...and right now its got a pistol grip, threaded barrel and a bayo lug....being in NY , it must be AW compliant.

Im thinking, install a thumbhole stock on it, and take off the lug, .....would this make it compliant?

Also, where can I get the cheapest thumbhole stock for a stamped reciever?

I want to recieve this rifle, and not have it permamently modified where I cant return it to being "evil" easily.... I was thinking silver sodering the muzzle brake , and either removing the lug or sodering that too, being I can remove the soder easily (even though the finish would be toast).

I also dont want my FFL yelling at me and telling me how its an assault weapon

"Permantently" attach the muzzle brake and take the wings off the bayonet lug and you'd be good to go.

thats what i want, but he doesnt have silver soder on hand....and theres not much else he can do himself...

Knock the pins out of the front sight that hold the spring loaded detent in. Put take the spring out and put a piece of steel rod or something in and replace the pins in the front sight.

That will hold the brake on "permanently".

what about just removing the pistol grip from the AK and lopping off the lugs.... would that be legal?

do you think the store will be pissed about having a rifle there that just needs the pistol grip re-installed to become evil again? I am affriad itd show up and they would say its illegal, when in fact it isnt.

basically id have the AK74 , with detachable magazine, threaded muzzle and thats it.... the pistol grip wouldnt be installed and the lugs lopped off. itd be 922 compliant also (as if that matters to the FFL, who never checks)....

Not knowing the store or the owner or the guys running it, I can't say whether they'd be pissed or not.

It would be legal though.

ill call them up tomorrow, run it by them and make sure...otherwise ill have it shipped someplace else that wont hassle me. thanks for your input Templar, your a great reference/source on, just about anything

I am sure someon has a post ban 74 with the flash hider attached to the front sight base. Maybe they would trade you for your virgin one as all it takes is knocking out 2 pins.

Diet- too bad you werent simply getting a SLR105R- that way it has no bayo lug or threaded barrel and yo could have AKUSA make it evil for you.. that is what I did.. (of course I ground off the bayo lugs myself via a Dremel and had Chris perm attach the brake for me...

This is a $300 kit gun, SLR-105Rs are $420 minimum...

They sell silver solder at the hardware store.

I got mine here locally. Silversuppliesonline.com It's not expensive. Order some, have it shipped to him. If he has Mapp gas and a legal muzzlebreak, he can solder it in minutes. I still have plenty left in the syringe and don't need it. If he needs it, contact me and I will mail it to him.

What about JB Weld? Its pretty easy to find and will make the muzzle brake permanently attached.

JB Weld will not make the brake permanent. I've seen it tried before and it doesn't hold up.

Ive seen it used very effectively and hold up well under the heat of 500-1000 rounds in a shooting session while keeping a good bond.

will it be enough to pass the FFL messing around wiht it in the shop?

when i got my SLR-105R in , they started to try their best to remove the muzzle nut, which was WELDED ON......

JB Weld is some tough stuff but as far as I know it doesnt qualify as permanent.

That is very possible. The fact that I've seen it fail would lead me to believe that it wouldn't count as permanent. The last rifle I saw this done to, it took slight pressure to get the brake to start to spin.

im gettin a dragunov style/thumbhole stock to slap on it, I can have a threaded muzzzle still that way, doenst bother me much

this way I dont have to permamently alter the rifle, when I move, the pistol grip goes on... or I can silver soder the brake and put pistol grip on it
