Aluma-Hyde II from brownells.com.

I recently refinished an AK steel mag, and it came out nice.

Make sure you have it in a warm environment with circulating air.

clean, degrease, clean, degrease, then clean it agiain, then maybe degrease it, cook it a bit then clean and degrease. I cant stress that enough, I am impatient and just thought I did a good job of cleaning, but it will rear its ugly head up anywhere you miss, trust me, Im sitting here with 2 underfolders that need refinishing again, after I did a super profesional job on them. Anyone know anyone who does that on the side and isnt up to their ass in builds, I just need a good finish for them.

How does one go about getting something sandblasted?

I've also heard that you can get some chemical to pretreat with so that you don't have to sandblast, anyone know what I'm talking about?

I also did duplicolor from wallmart.  Total cost 5 bucks and it did two rifles (both ak's).  Been on there for a year not even a scratch.  Baked it in the oven for 2 hours.

Yes - regardless of what you use (and you really SHOULD use GunKote) - degrease with brake cleaner, let it dry, then PREBAKE it.  325F for 30 minutes.  Just watch how much grease and crap boils out :)

Now let it cool, and degrease it again.  Follow up wih clean Acetone as a final degrease.

Most people skip this prebake - and are often really mad when that grease bakes out AFTER they have painted :)

I painted my Norinco with 1200 degree header paint from Autozone. I baked it @200 for about 2 hours.
I think it turned out good and after all it's a AK.

I painted it after I installed the side folder on it. It had no wood.I wasn't even going to paint it but the Romey folder was pretty brown and it didn't match the rest of the gun.The whole thing fit in the oven.
I did degrease it with brake cleaner first.I avoid gunscrubber just CLP.
