Other than ...

Chris Butler of AK-USA
Ted Marschall of TMA

anyone else capable at these?

Any members here. Or other Dealers here who have done these? Rear folder cutting, and front catch cutting.

Anyone here that will do a great job?

Got a couple Saiga 7.62x39 with all the build parts also.

Who else are you looking for? You got the two best people in the business right there. Marshall is probably out because of his long wait times. Chris is available right now. You can try someone else, but whatever you do, you should stay away from elite firearms from what I hear here.

My advise...go with AK-USA. This is my 103 as built by Chris, it does not get much better than that.

Here is a 74M also built by Chris, this one is NOT mine:

Thanks.

I'm trying to do some comparison shopping.
And before it's said.....Nothing compares to Chris Butler's Design's at AK-USA......yeah. I know.

Good luck and let us know how this turns out. I think you may find someone to do it cheaper than Chris, but I don't think anyone will do it better than either Chris or Ted marshall. We will definitely need pics of the completed projects though. One more thing, you may try Jnewt. Once he gets caught up wth his pending work, he may start taking some orders....or so I heard.

Thanks everyone. I have everything, as far as parts, covered. I spent way over 1,000.00 to get authentic shit from K-Var, Ruseller, Tantal, Oleg, etc.

Wonder what this AK-104 is gonna run?

If you have already spent that much the you might definitely want to follow the Ted marshall aproach and go all out, full engraving, complete refinishing, etc... Probably another $1,500.00 and if you can SBR the thing.after all what's another $200.00

You can havee all the markings removed, but since the Saiga has so much writing on the receiver it is a lot of work. I did not get it done on mine but I might have it done later although it is going to cost me a bundle. I will have Chris build me a 74M on an SLR105 receiver and I will have him move all the markings and do cyrillic selelctor stops.

Will I pay entire projected cost up front?
Link Posted: 1/18/2006 6:07:55 PM EDT
[#12]
Not with Chris, he asks for a modest deposit and the balance is due upon completion

Fuck it!

Chris Butler it is................LOL

Does he do everything Ted Marshall can?
Link Posted: 1/18/2006 6:26:40 PM EDT
[#14]
Anything Marshall does Chris can do and sometimes they will both work on the same project from what I have heard. They are colleagues, rather than competitors.

Chris does not do his own engraving/markings moving. He subcontracts this work to Ted Marshall. Chris strictly does the nuts and bolts. He does do the re-finish, however.

This information is correct to the best of my knowledge.

Another vote for Inrange.  I have not priced him or Chris for awhile but when I had my work done a few years go Troy was much more reasonable on labor rates.

I have had some great builds with Mario at piece of history firearms.

Give Mario a try.

Thanks everyone.

I want all the authentic stuff done. cyrillic engraving, re-finish.

Just don't know if I wanna spend thousands on 1 AK.

Unless it's an RPKS-74...lol

or Micro-Galil/Valmet.............etc...............lol

Not Likely. You crazies are way ahead on the brain deteriation line than I am......I just got into AK's since I went to Iraq the first time 2003.

I've only got a few. Not including my Saiga rifles, and shotguns.

But I have plans for

AKS-74M
AK-101 have saiga
AK-102 have saiga/front end kvar
AK-103 have all parts/gun, ready to build
AK-104 have all parts/gun, ready to build
AK-105 front end kvar

It would seem to be a lot more work to have a Saiga converted than to have a parts kit built onto a virgin receiver. Did you just gotta have that "made in Russia" on there, or what?

Yep. And don't give 2 shits what people say about it. And fuck "dimples".....you'd think people around here saw enough of those on their wife's ass..........

xcibes.

Let me know if you wanna sell that AK-103.

Then I can concentrate on the AK-104, and have that to enjoy meanwhile.

Chris Butler is a great guy, super helpful and probably the best of the smiths out there. If you have the dough I advise you to go with him. Pride of ownership......it can be a wonderful thing. Good Luck

It is tempting but if I sold my 103 my father would kill me. He does not like me to have as many rifles as I have but he said that if I sold the "black" (Ak103) rifle he will never talk to me again.

Keep that in mind if he ever pisses you off. And you don't want him to talk to you....
