And why?

Milled, stamped receivers, underfolders, side folders, fixed stocks, wood, synthetic, 7.62x39, 5.45x39?

I know this question has been asked a million times, but I'm relatively new to the AK playground, so I'd like to see what your opinions are.

Thanks.

Bud

Arsenal SA M7 Carbine

The only stamped AK I've shot is my friends Romanian SAR-1, It's a nice rifle but I really like my milled Arsenal alot more. It's not as heavy as I thought it would be and it's so solid.

I've only used 7.62x39mm rifles so I cant really say anything about 5.45, 5.56.

My Veprs. Heavy duty reciever, heavy barrel and comfortable butt stock that is the best leangth for me and it out shoots my Romanian and Bulgarian as far as accuracy. The K(carbine) is not bad on weight at all to me however the 20" does feel a little front heavy.

Yeah I saw that too.
I love my VEPR and MY underfolder MAK 90........But all in all I think the coolest looking AK on the planet would have to be an SBRd Krink side or underfolder, One day I will get one too.

Stottman, that is an awesome picture although the rifle is not my choice. For me, make it a Russian AKM. Since I cannot have one, the next best thing is my Hungarian clone shown below. I have yet to shoot it but it is so lightweight especially when compared to to AK47.

After that come a good Type III AK47. It is just solid and to me it looks elegant.

Soon to be re-born!

I guess any NON-Tactical AK...Other than a scope/red dot on the optic rail I don't want to see any shit hanging from my AK.    Sorry, I'm more traditional.

I prefer milled receivers, for many of the reasons already stated.  However, I also like stamped receiver AKs, specifically with fixed buttstocks.

I have an SA M-7 Carbine and an SLR-100 (Gordon Technologies).  Had a "Classic" but sold it.  (I'm such a dumbass).

I plan on adding this stamped AKM very soon, hopefully.

What kind of finish on the Hungarian clone?

My favorite kind of AK would either be a milled SAM in either 5.45 or 7.62, or any AKM.

I bought the Hungarian AKM from a fellow board member but it was built by Crhis at AK-USA. generally he uses a propietary finish, some sort of enamel-type coating. You can send him the picture and ask him to be sure.

What is my fav AK??  i wonder if the tribe out there will think of this as a AK?  But lets try and see if someone will agree or disagree with me?  The best AK out there is South African-made and issued as standard service rifle for the Army, Air Force, Medical Health Services (Yes, the SA Medic is armed and authorized to carry), and the Navy is only now trading the old FN FAL.

What makes this weapon is good?

First let me tell you it is a 5.56x45mm and the most improved copy of the AK.  It was pirated from the AK and the Galil and improved all the way.  All the "troubles" of the AK was sorted out and the R4-variant is accurate up to 500m plus.

It comes in three pure variants and one bull-pup design.

R4
Type:  Gas-operated
Calibre:  5.56x45mm
Mass:  4.3kg empty
            5.1kg with nylon 35-round magizine
Mag Capacity:  35 or 50
Barrel length:  460mm
Muzzle velocity:  980m/s
Rate of fire:  650 rounds per minute

In the opinion of Heimoed/Romer Heitman of Jane's Defence Weekly:

"The R4 is a conventional gas-operated, rotating-bolt assault rifle.  Related to the Galil, it differs from the other assault rifles in the degree of attention paid to toughness.  This has resulted in a rather heavy weapon, made even heavier by the standard fitting of a bipod.  This does, however, make the weapon very steady to fire.
The R4 is replacing the FN-FAL-based R1 in SA Army service.  A Short-barrel version, the R5, is also entering service, in most cases as a replacement for the sub-machine-gun."  From SA Arms and Armour by Heitman (1988), Struik Publishers.

In my own opinion:

The R4 was the rifle on which I did my training as well as Infantry combat training.  In more rounds than I care to remember I only had one stopage and this was due to a faulty round and not the weapon itself.
