That would be constructing a Short Barrelled Rifle--SBR. Depending on where you live they are legal, but you have to get prior clearance from ATF and pay the tax stamp. There may be other hoops to jump through, but it can be done under certain conditions.

That's what I thought.  Someone was trying to tell me that you could have an ak with an underfolder on it with a short barrel as long as you didn't fold out the stock.  Yeah, right...

It may be possible to have one on there as long as it's permanently (ie welded) in the closed position, but I for one am not going to be the one to test out the ATF.

Wouldn't you be better off with a .45 pistol or is the .45 muzzle velocity greater?

But then a .45 is alot easier to hide than a short barreled AK!
