Matte black KG GunKote
 Satin black KG GunKote  Not a lot of difference, both will turn out great but as you can see, the satin has a bit more shine to it. Sorry if the Satin pic is not to good. I know the two are in different light buts thats all I had...lol... |

You can get Gun Kote here. I don't know if it holds up any better but I'll be finding out in the spring when it's warm enough here to shoot the DuraCoat. So far Gun Kote has worked great for me ...

Prep with 120 grit aluminum oxide, followed by treating with TCE, then perhaps a phosphate coating (optional), then once TCE is evaporated, spray fine layers of GunCoat then bake in oven at 350 for an hour or until your kitchen stinks and maybe do one more coat for good measure. Key is to keep it very thin but prep is the most important. DO NOT USE SILACA BEAD, ask me how I learned that one sometime.

GB/FSB Combo. You can turn the threads down like Krebs does or cut them off, the plunger part on the other side can be dremeled off and filed to shape. Someone used to sell these (K-Var?) without threads but I modified this one to my liking ... |

aluminum oxide is your sandblasting medium, don't use glass beads, it just shot peens a nice smooth finish that will never hold a finish
TCE is a cleaner/degreaser |

A blasting cabinet would be best and they are cheap at HF. And you will need a compressor to go with it. |

Folks - great photos... but it's IMPERATIVE to say which FORMULA of gunkote you are using... 2400 or 1600 series.
I like the 1600 Teflon based series - here, "flat" is Matte and "semi" is gloss. 1600F will be a ringer for Bulgarian - except that it actually holds up. 1600S will look like an import SA85 - glossy. A) An air compressor B) Go to Home Depot and get a Husky sandbaster gun for about $12, an extra screw in type male connector with a hose clamp and a nut that will screw on the connector(nut is in the plumbing dept.), a five gallon bucket and a $6 bag of blasting sand. Drill a hole in the side of the bucket at the bottom, screw in the air connector and tighten it down with the nut on the inside of the bucket. Attach the black hose that comes with the gun and tighten the hose clamp. Fill bucket with sand. Voilà -Instant sandblaster for under $20 ...  I use a face shield and a big plastic trash can to catch as much sand as possible for reuse, use a piece of sreening to screen out any debri that gets mixed with your sand ...
It works best over park, if you can't park first then use K-Phos ... |
