Just wondering what condition the kits are in. I know what the CenterFire site says but they are so full of shit it hurts when grading kits...lol...

Planning on building up one or two AKMs for resale and just want to get an idea of what to expect.

Tag for pics - I have a thing for SA85's ...

My local gunsmith bought n SA85 kit from them and was pretty pleased.  It is a little worn but in good conidition and *I think* the numbers matched.  

If you are going for a cheap parts kit, just go with the Romy, but if you want something a little different the SA-85 seems to be a nice alternative to fill out the stable.

Do you remember what condition the wood was in?

I would prefer to go with the SA85, even though the kits are basically double, the quality of the parts are well worth it if they are in good condition.

I handled it (built up on GT receiver) and the wood was in very good conidition- probably the equivalent ot the stuff on the M70's that are coming out right now- no major dings, no heavy layer of finish, nice IMHO.

I thought about getting one myself, but decided to go with two Romy kits for the later resale value.

If you want, go to www.moshergunshop.com and shoot the webmaster an email- he is their gunsmith and the one with the kit, and can give you a better description than I can.  I only handled the partially complete rifle for about 5 minutes, but liked what I saw.

I bought an SA85 kit a few weeks ago and let's put it this way, with mine anyway, the wood was GOOD + cond and the rest of the parts will NOT be refinished. I'll only do whatever receiver I build it on. It was a VERY nice kit. Nicer than the Polski underfolders for over $200 anyway!

I bought a kit from Centerfire a few months back and I was very pleased with mine. I thought I would share some pics of it with you. I havent built it yet.
I also didnt pay the hand-select fee, I just lucked out. My wood was in good shape but the metal will have to be refinished.
Here is a pic after I just got it in the mail.

Here is pic of the entire kit after I refinished everything.


And one more of the wood after it was refinished. I just bleached it and put a ton of Tung Oil on it. No stain at all. The worn places in the wood really sucked in the Oil.

Just keep in mind, I got a very nice kit. I have heard some horror stories but nothing you can't fix.. I have a Bulgarian AK-74 built by you so I know what you can do. I wouldnt shy away from it. CFS has been very good to me with the recent kits I have been buying :)

PS, I thought you quit building ??????

Not quiting building, just not accepting any more work for a while. I had considered throwing in the towel but now that I can see the light from the pile of rifles I had backed up...lol... Once I have these all done I am planning on accepting 1 build at a time. No lists, no hold me a spot, no deposits, first come first serve type operation, one rifle in, one rifle built and one rifle shipped, then start with a new one. Thats the only way I can do it with the amount of time I have now days and not drive my self mad or the owners of parts/rifles.

The two I got from Centerfire were in excellent condition.  One appeared to be new, the other only had some storage marks.  The finish on the metal was outstanding, and the wood only had a few minor dings that will easily steam out.  Out of the 15 kits I have purchased over the last couple of years, these have been the best so far.








No wear on the carrier!

It was a shock seeing pleather bags in those colors when I was expecting something along the lines of O.D. canvas, or something equally military looking.  I laughed my ass off when I saw shiny fake leather!!!
