Put it in a vise or hold it with a crescent wrench and just twist the wood so it's 180 degrees from where it is ...

Can you be more specific?
Are you trying to disassemble the rifle by removing the handguards or are you trying to remove the metal parts from the handguads themselves? Z |

If you mean with the gass tube off the rifle, then twist it 180 degrees. Often the first time will require a pair of channel locks or a vice, but it should get easy after that. I can twist it off by hand now.
