I have a AMD 63 with the wood grips and I cannot get a 30 round mag in without hitting the front grip is this common?

If not is there an easy fix or does someone have another grip they want to part with I can mod some?

TIA!

Which way do you have the grip turned?

It has been a while since I took the front grip off of my 63, but I dont remember having problems. But then, I could just be my memory.  If I may ask the obvious; Do you correctly have the front grip facing forward like this http://www.ak-47.net/ak47/hesse63.html?

ETA.  Grrr  Rob beat me to the obvious question.

the origional AMD 63's were issued with 20 round mags... using one you have plenty of room for removal

At the end of this vid you can see my son starting to remove a 30 round mag from AMD-63.

On my AMD 63 build, just as the mag clears the reciever there's about 1/8" to 1/4" of clearance between it's base and the front grip. In other words.....barely, but yes.

Hmm I posted some pics this morning but they didn't go let me try again

Here is the mark the 30's make when you try to put one in

Its not much to shave off to clear but would rather do it with a spare grip anyone got a wood one they want to get rid of?

Insert the mag straight in, almost vertically like an AR mag and then rock it the last bit in. I didn't think 30's would fit in my '65 until I tried doing it this way and they went in and came out easily.
