i wouldnt say a bad deal but you might shop around and find a bit better of a deal. it might be worth it to just buy this one rather than having one shiped to a dealer to do a transfer.

Well you can find them, usually at a Funshow. I have seen lots of them lately.

I saw a dealer with a stamped NMH-91 for $250 at the last show I went to.

Keep in mind that you won't be able to put a normal, milled receiver buttstock on it.  All the milled MAK's have that awful slant cut on the rear of the receiver.

Ironwood makes something that fits it, but (IMHO) it looks terrible.

I paid higher than that on Gunbroker for a milled National Match.  Am now int the process of installing a Ironwood Design stock set.  The stock does need fitting, but I personally think it is OK looking.  I went with the laminate set, but the walnut is the same price.  As for the milled MAK for $250.00 at the show, you were an idiot for not buying it and reselling it for double your money, if it was a milled receiver.

Maybe you could have done better (ETA as far as price).  I think it depends on what part of the country you are in as far as gun shows.  You have a beautiful, quality AK-47 that will serve you well.

It was stamped and buying a rifle to resell it is illegal.

Buying a rifle, getting tired of it, and selling it is legal.  Buying it for the purpose of resale is illegal.

I'd like to see a reference for that. Seriously.... not trying to be a smart-ass.

Granted, any lawyer (especially ATFE's) can get a ham sandwich indicted for whatever crime they can
come up with (though conviction is something else), but otherwise, that's 100% capitalism at work.

If I see a rifle that the seller is asking $200, and I know that my buddy has been wanting one, and
is willing to pay $400.....

LArifleMAN, I didn't mean to hijack. You bought a nice rifle I hope you enjoy it.

Being in BUSINESS to sell firearms without a FFL is illegal.  Seeing a good deal at the gunshow and buying it because you know you can flip it for a profit is not.  An extreme example of this are NFA items.  Guys buy machine guns all the time with the intent to resell them.  In fact, I know of several cases where multiple Form 3's and 4's were pending on the SAME gun because it is sold and resold before the original buyer got his approval.  Nothing wrong with it and in this example, it is being done with the ATF's full knowledge.

The ATF is VERY specific as to what constitutes "Being in business" and doing an occasional flip is not it.

That would be a straw purchase.

Only if the original seller is an FFL or if tanker06 knows that his buddy is a prohibited person.  If it is PP to PP to PP then it's ok.

In the case of the FFL, the actual crime would be knowingly making false statements on a 4473 (which the ATF included into the definition of what a straw purchase is in 1995).

You will like it, they are some of the best made AK's around.

Get the Ironwood stock if you want the traditional look.  Go to his website. Get a USA made FCG and you will be legal.
