Three hundred for a minty D or M is about the max I would pay. I have seen them priced much higher, but they also sit for years on shelves at those prices (and of course the shop owners will tell you how hard they are to move). I think they would need 7 US parts to be 922r compliant, but I am not sure.
I do have to point out that in that price range you shouldn't have too much trouble finding a folding stock AK that takes AK mags.
ETA: As far as experience goes, I have two M models with the twenty inch barrel and military style stock, I love them, they are very reliable, but are not without thier problems. They are as suceptable to mag issues as any AK and tend to be more ammo sensitive than my other SKS rifles. I bought my M's years ago for $129 each (that was in the days before the SAR1's came out and MAK90's were fetching three hundred). Mine are not for sale, so I guess you could say that I like them, and find them to be reliable enough. Accuracy seems to be about the same as any other Chinese SKS.
