It looks terrific...

I sent it down to Chris Butler at AK USA after a botched attempt by myself to re-do the finish myself. He had it hot-blued for me... I cant be happier............

what do ya' think?

thx- I am sending the rest of my Romanian peices to him one at a time. I have another WASR and two SAR2s that are waiting in line to get the same finish treatment. It is the finish quality all Romanians should have come with....

right now he has my Bulgarian SLR105R and is fitting a AK74-correct brake on it for me.

Mattl----

He sand blasted the BBQ paint off it then degreased it. Then gave it a caustic hot tank style blueing. What you see is pure metal finish. THere is not sprayed on finish on it- just the actual rifles metal which has been turned black (blued) by the chemical bath. It is how ALL romanian rifles come but not nearly as nice.

thanks Szurgot!!!

It wasn't cheap. For the entire job it was $165 shipped back to my door. But you get what you pay for and I will have Chris do all the rest of my work. IT took him 6 weeks but well worth the wait.

Chris isnt the cheapest, but it is my impression that he is the best.

The rifle itself only cost me $250 new so I only have $415.00 into it not including the wire stock. Not too bad......

Here is another pic...

Very nice.

There is nothing wrong with Romanian AK's, I'm not entirely sure why they're always seen as a "lower class" AK. Just because it's less $$$ and put together by Century doesn't mean it's not a top-notch AK. My Vector Polish V-47 may look aesthetically much better than my SAR-1, but the SAR wins in terms of trigger pull and "solidness" hands down.

Perhaps it is just the crappy lettering job that they get that make people think they are lower class.  To me they are a great trunk gun.  Takes a lickin and keeps a tickin.

looks great.

I do have one question though. Why do your spot weld look better than mine? I am speaking of the ones where the absent dimple should be. Yours look more deeper, and more prominate than mine, was extra material added?

can someone explain the wiggly letterings?  I remember seeing a friend's SAR1 and it doesn't look as bad.

Beautifull deep blueing....one of the nicest Romanians I've seen in a long time.

Very nice.

I am not a fan of the lighter wood, but the combo of the folding stock, finish and light wood make it .

I think that is a good price (IMHO) for a first rate job!

That sure looks great! Congratulations.

I really like that satin look, very classy.

Nope- all Chris was given was the reciever, top cover, selector and gas tube. THe furniture is Bulgarian and came with the rifle. I had never seen it before and think it makes the rifle look really unique.

Where did you get that beautiful wood ?  Also, what is Chris' address and contact info.  Need to get in line!

How could you have gotten bulgy wood on a wasr?

why do they have crappy lettering on sar and wsar, you would think by now they could have bought a die stamp.

Woodsman- Chris can be reached at www.ak-103.com

He is a 1 man show and is in desparate need of a book keeper but is a really nice guy, fair and very good at his trade.

The Bulgarian wood came with the rifle. I bought it used but "never fired". the bolt was in perfect condition which supports the claim it was never fired (all numbers match) . Whoever had it before me stripped the bolt carrier and supplied the Bulgarian solid wook furniture set. I have the matching buttstock in my basement............. They are stamped "made in Bulgaria" on the undersides of each grip.
