Can a receiver be smothed down, sanded and filled in to take deep scatches and gouges out?  By a profesional of course?

I'm doing that to a receiver. So far, so good. I used auto body filler and sanded, sanded, and more sanding. not done yet, but it seems to be working.

I'm sure it can be,Old Jarhead,do you think a steel epoxy would have been a better choice than auto body filler?I would think the auto body filler may be too soft and come loose with firing.

BTW,I'm not knocking your choice, just wondering what you think.

450 deg silver solder would be a good choice for repair.

I thought about some type of steel filler, but decided it would be to much trouble to smooth down. The receiver doesn't really have any stresses on it when firing; it just holds the parts in place. The only thing that really needs hardening on a receiver is the pin holes. If the body filler fails, I'll try some agraglass next.
