Picked up my 1st Ak, An Arsenal  SA M-7s. What a blast!
Im thinking I might want a long barreled version.
What is the optimum length for 7.62 X 39?
easily scoped, and w/ a bipod.
Can you tell me what my optons are?
what would such a setup run?
Thanks

Welcome...

PS: A bipod? A scope? First shoot it out of the box... Then analyze on what you need... Then some more... And then shoot a little more. And then shoot a lil more...

magyar,

My advice to you would be to save your pennies and then purchase an Arsenal, Inc. SA RPK-7 R:

SA RPK-7 R - U.S. made, 7.62x39mm, milled receiver, RPK heavy barrel, 14mm muzzle threads, muzzle nut, folding bipod, cleaning rod inside bipod, no bayonet lug, blond wood furniture, paddle style buttstock, scope rail.

Should compliment your SA M7 nicely and meet all of your other requirements.

You might want to consider a Vepr.

www.gunbroker.com/Auction/ViewItem.asp?Item=36797585

Its based on the RPK and is made at the Molot factory in Russia where the RPK has been produced for many years.  It has a 20 inch barrel and is a pretty accurate gun as well.

The only downside is that its a AK/RPK frankenstein that looks a little weird.

500 even plus shipping..I was waiting for a no bad but the prices keep going up and this was a great deal with all kinds of things with it.

Wait for the pics with the ATN red dot mounted..

I loaded the bulgy mags for the first time, man those are smooth to load..lock into that milled receiver so
smooth and easy.

Its just been to damn hot to shoot it yet.

Stay tuned..

Arsenal sure makes a nice rifle..

Hey great looking peice man, just my 2cents but unless you reload you probably will not get much more out of the 762x39 with a longer barrel. At least not enough to justify the cost of a RPK clone or a Veper. The powder charge in 762x39 is mostly burnt in a 16inch barrel,at least in the chronograph I used.

You really don't need a scope on an AK.  They are probably one of the best SHTF guns out there.  I have owned two Arsenal's and they make a very fine gun.  You will definitely be happy with it.
