I have one of the older SLR 95's. I put a US parts kit in it to put a pistol grip and stock on it. I would love to take the muzzle brake off and put a slant brake on it as well. Can I just remove the brake, thread the barrel and install the slant brake? Or is there more to this than that?

Your brake should just be pinned on with two pins, but they are "sweated" on and are usually a bitch to get off.  The "sharkgill" brake that is on it now is actually a lot better brake than the slant brake, and also a fair flash suppressor actually.

However, if you want to get it off and put a slant on there, you might have to use a cutting wheel on a dremel to cut it down to the barrel on both sides of the brake, which would make it easy to come off after punching the pins out.

If your front sight does not have a detent pin hole, you'll need a new front sight assembly which does, and that will require pressing the old sight off and the new one on.

This is what the front sight should look like if it has the plunger pin hole in it......this one is already assembled of course.

How hog wild do you want to go with this?  If your looking for originality, the threaded muzzle with just a thread protector is correct for a milled gun, but the Bulgarians have updated their designs, if you look at the picture I posted, one of the rifles has a threaded muzzle, the other uses a front sight block that slides over the barrel and is itself threaded.

They take different attachments, the more modern using a 24mm RH thread and the older style using a 14/1 left hand thread.

You can get birdcage flash suppressors for either style, the 24mm uses a flash suppressor as pictured, but they are in short supply now.

www.k-varcorp.com has most anything you'll need.  If they don't have it in stock, they're just waiting to get more of it in from Bulgaria.

I recognize both of those muzzles. They both look like the new Arsenals. We get them in at work. The top one with the large threads and flash suppressor looks like the SAM7A1's we get at work, the lower one looks like the SAM7 carbines and that new SAM7 underfolder that just came in. That underfolding stock sure seems uncomfortable, but it is a sweet looking gun.

But it sounds like the threaded muzzle with protector (like the SAM7 carbine) is what would actually be authentic? I could handle that. I presume if I got the new front sight, it would have the bayo lug on it? If my presumptions are right, I think I would like to go ahead and do that. Where could I send it and what do you think I would pay?

Yup, you nailed it, they're Arsenal Inc. rifles from the shop I work in.  The 14/1 thread is on the SAS-M7 Underfolder, and the one with the 24mm thread is from the SA-M7A1.  If you put the front sight from the A1 on the rifle, it will have a bayonet lug, but if you want to thread the muzzle and put the thread protector (muzzle nut) on it, the new front sight with the detent hole will not have a bayonet lug, it will need a new gas block that has a bayonet lug.

Basically, you can turn your rifle into an "almost" M7A1 by replacing the front sight with an AK-74 front sight........but you still won't have a cleaning rod holder on the rifle.....so you'd need to change out the gas block anyway.

Or.......you could sell your SLR-95 and buy one of the SA-M7A1's at your shop and be done with it.......which is what I'd recommend anyway......

Changing gas blocks and sight assemblies is a pain in the ass, you'll really need at least a 10 ton press to do it right, most guys who do it alot use a 20 tonner.
