From the photo it looks just like the 20 rnd mags I have for a Norinco 84S (223 AK).  Since you asked, I tried to insert one of my Norinco 84S mags into my SAR2 and it didn't lock in.  Even if it did, I wouldn't expect it to function properly.

Since 5.45 mags are so cheap, why to you want to fool around with a 223 mag anyway?

Bench shooting I guess

i bench shot my ak47 but i held it with both hands using my elbows.  the 30rd mag cleared but it
did tear up my elbows...i definetly wont be doing that again...

I use 20 rounders almost exclusively in 762's and have come to appreciate the size/capacity trade off FAR more than the 30 rounders or drums.  PLUS the 20's (at least for 762) will fit in all AR mag pouches and pockets.

And of course, MUCh easier to bench shoot.

Also, do they make metal mags in 5.45?

I like the 20-rnd mags for 7.62 AKs too.

The only metal 5.45 mags I've seen in quantity are the Polish Tantal mags, but they're 30 rounders.  I've used them in several different 5.45 AKs and they've always functioned.  Tantal has them listed on his site:

Where can one get steel 5.45 mags?

It will almost fit into the magazine well of the SAR-2 as I just tried it.  It most likely is hitting the tube which is riveted above the magazine catch, I just got my scope back on after reassembling my SAR-2 in order to fit some 5 round K-VAR .223 mags to a SAR-2 and SLR-105 and my arthritic hands hurt to much to break it down again and check where it is hitting.  The K-VAR 5 rounders were easily fitted with a dremel in the SLR-105 and one fit the SAR-2 with no modification, but I will have to try their function tomorrow with some rounds at the range to see if they work.

If the Chinese mags will function they could most likely be made to fit but they are kind of pricey now as people with .223 Norinco AK's have been buying them up.  Sportsmansguide is way off on the prices as I still find them at gun shows from $10.00 to $20.00 from time to time.  

I just purchased 2 Romanian 5 round and one 10 rounder off the EE about a week ago and they should get to me by next week.  I placed an add in the WTB area and a few people contacted me.  $25.00 for the 3 shipped.
