When are the side folders gonna start being made here in the USA, sorta like the Krink style or AK-74 style? Would not vote for either.....Tapco looks too much like Galil's....

Of the "easy fit" choices, I prefer the Romanian or East German wire folder.

The TAPCO isn't bad, but I don't care for the extra ~ 2" in length.

Tapco's is long, ugly and made of plastic. Go with the Romanian or an ACE.

You got that right-  that's why I'mgoing with the wire folders for now and holding out for something that fits my needs later. Tantal's website has a side fold that looks just like a regular polymer full stock but  folds to the left. IIRC it was hella expensive too.

I am thinking about picking up a romanian side folder for my mak90. Supposedly they can be made to fit chinese rifles. I don't think it will be to bad. How short are the romanian folders? To short would make it really uncomfortable to shoot. I want one because I think it would look sweet with a ergo grip, ultimak with red-dot and maybe a rail system.

I don't have my tape measure handy, but doing an impromptu side by side comparison, the folder looks like the same length as a Bulgarian wood butt stock I have laying around

I'm used to a MAK90 wood thumbhole stock and a choate dragunov stock (what I have on it now). It is MUCH longer and much much more comfortable than my buddies WSAR-10's wood stock. My choate stock is 10 3/4'' from the back of the receiver to the end of the rubber buttpad. How much shorter are the romanian folders?

The wall thickness of Chinese AK receivers is slightly more than Romanian receivers. The extra part of the dimension shows up on the inside wall. In other words, the open back end of a Chinese receiver is slightly smaller than the open end of a Romanian receiver. The block of the folding stock has to be modified to fit the smaller size of the Chinese rectangular "hole".

Here are some instructions for adding a Romy folder to your chinese rifle. Very easy to do.
