[ARCHIVED THREAD] - What to do with an Odd receiver cut WUM-1

It has a half moon cut in the receiver making it incompatible with many stocks other than its "Dragonov" sporter types stock. I did some handy work on the Dragonov and it feels much nicer with a good hand contour but still, it just does not seem right to have on there with the ban and all (I am aware of the imported parts restrictions).

Any ideas?

Like the angle cut of a VEPR, friends with a good welder who can secure an insert to square up the rear may be the best route. Otherwise, be patient with Ironwood.

Where could I find an insert made of the same steel and of the same thickness. From the looks of the cut I can't imagine that they are uniform from rifle to rifle so I think it will have to be "custom" fitted.

tig weld in a patch.

first. strainghten out the side cuts.

next, bend a 20 guage (.036") patch to fit the missing material.

using a copper block inside the receiver, tig weld the patch in place and grind down the weld seams on the exterior.

sell it and buy an SAR1. it's not worth the trouble monkey'ing around with it. i could never get my stock to stay tight anyway.

Already did that, well...the SAR-1 part at least.
