If you do not have the headspace guages, a spent shell casing and a small piece of a business card works well for a no-go guage. A local gunsmith taught me this trick.

A local gunsmith taught me this trick.
trick hell! it's an open invitation to disaster. first, buy a go gage member and a no go gage gage member...they are cheaper than plastic surgery or a seeing eye dog. (consider buying a field reject gage member if you think you are going to shoot your rifle for any sizeable round count...and USE the gage at frequent intervals.). second, set the bbl. in relation to the trunnion (akm/ak74) or receiver (ak47) so that a bolt will close on a go gage member and not close on a no go gage member. there is only a few thousandths of an inch difference between a firearm that is safe and one that is a ticking bomb. |

Campy-how do you tell if the AK is already built?? for example-a few dudes go shooting with their VEPR's at the range, they come back and start to clean their guns. They then get their bolts and carriers mixed up, and don't know which is which??? what should they do??? where do you get an AK gauge set??

I'd be as giddy as a school girl to find where I can buy a field guage for a 7.62 x 39. And no brownells does not sell them only go and no-go.
