Yep they exist - I picked up a few Romainians for a Sar-2 about three years back. I bought them from Interordance. As a matter of fact the Sar-2a came with a metal mag cut down to 10 rounds.

I cannot recall seeing any other metals AK-74 mags thought.

Oh they exist, they are just hard to find and expensive.  The ones you would most be able to find first are the Romanian and Polish 5.45 steel mags.

So what about all the orange bakerlite mags I see. Are they any good? Are they reliable?

Yep, cheap and solid as all hell....  You can also get the black bulgarian mags, ORF has a special on them, there is post here a page or two back about it with order details, 4 for $19.95 (used) with a pouch...

China also makes a 30 round AK-74 mag for their Type-88.

The orange bakelite 5.45 mags are the best in my opinion.

Best in fit, they lock up very tightly.  They are also extremely solid, and don't 'flex' at all.

I tried dyeing them, but they don't take dye at all.  Don't bother.

This is the only mag I'll buy into the future.  It's my new standard.

You can paint them, but the Orange/Brown/Red goes well with wood furniture and is really pretty attractive, IMO.

like it's 7.62 brother, the 5.45 is blessed by a variety of great magazines.

my guess is that in a few months we'll see all kinds of ak74 mags imported.

Yeah, like 60 rounders!!!!
