first; triangle 66 is reporting that he googled up so data that seems to state the the romanians DO use this rifle as a training (my guess is that the military issue one is selective fire, just like the east german mpik72 though) rifle.

second; mickeymouse is now in possession of the rifle and says it looks "exactly like an akm74"...his wording.

he also went on to state that the bbl., the bolt and the trunnion were different from a centerfire kalashnikov. this, we would expect. i will check for the rifling twist rate when i get the rifle in my hands. hopefully, it will be a 1:16 twist rate.

the magazine outer body uses a wasr10 single stack as the host for the sub-calibre magaine insert capured within.

i have an east german mpik72 magazine headed this way and will let you know if it can be adapted to work in the romanian rifle.

mickey was going to try and shoot it today. hopefully he can put up some impressions here.

hmmm? i wonder if it will cycle on wolf match target? muwahahahahaha!

CAMPY , VERY IMPORTANT QUESTION !

What is the item number or was the flyer a special dealer flyer ? I need to walk my non-AK FFL through it so they order me the correct one.

Campy, I was going to order one of these today, but I was wondering... Do these look like they originally had threaded barrels ? Compensator ?

I'm thinking Post AWB , they may come with these goodies?

Should I get one now or later ??

t66, being based on the ak74, they never had a threaded muzzle. being "post-ban", they do not have the threaded fsb that a proper 74 should have.

mickeymouse says the muzzle measures .550". that's just under 14mm, so 'if' you had the yen to go with akm threading, it should work just fine.

as for me...i'll fit a proper romy fsb and ak74 brake to tame the awesome .22 recoil and muzzle flash...heheh!

t66, i really have no clue 'how' these are built for military use. i rather doubt that any military would bother with an exspensive brake on a training rifle. the east germans did not. but...one never knows...at least in my case, i'm pleading terminal stoopidity!

i may even install a romy sidefolder on this toy just for the hell of it.

i'm going to try and fit that to the romy rifle.

i received the mpik69 magazine today. it's based on an ak47/akm mag body and is a VERY complicated device. the damn germans can't do anything without 27 engineers getting involved!

dunno how it shoots other than the test targets posted over on milsurp shooters forum (follow the above link to the .22 military trainer forum/romy ak post).

the rifle DOES have mag well dimples AND an optic mounting rail...just like the sar series. it appears to use ak-100 handguards and a unique polymer buttstock and pistolgrip. i do not yet know ABOUT INTERCHANGEABILITY OF THESE ITEMS, BUT MY GUESS IS THAT AKM/AK74 FURNITURE WILL DIRECTLY INTERCHANGE.

is it 'worth' 3 bones???

to me, obviously, it is.

i enjoy plinking with rimfires as much as centerfires.

as a collectors piece, it may be worth something in the very distant future. i can't see it being worth much right now.

at this point in time i'm of the opinion that most firearms atre overvalued. personally, i think $200 is more than enough for a rifle like this one.

btw, folks seem to be refering to it as the "ak98" model.

hmmm? i wonder if the sight is still graduated to 1000 meters?! heheh!
