thanks for the fast response.. whats in the middle end?

I would say SAR-2s are at the bottom end and custom built Bulgarian AK-74s are at the top end.

There's nothing on a SAR 2 that can't be fixed. Mine look and work fine after a make over from AK-USA.

AIM is advertising WASR-2's for $309.95.
Lately the few SAR-2's I've seen have been upwards of $450.00

AK-74 for $180 shipped from K-Var
AK-74 Reciever, $100 in hands
AK-74 US parts, $65 I guess

$350 or so and you got one helluva AK

As for Romanians, been-there-done-that. In my Opinion the only good thing coming from Romania is Gymnasts.

Then you pay $300-$350 to have it built and refinshed and hope you dont end up with one of the many AK-74 builds which have some type of problem, unless you have the tools to build and refinsh it yourself.  There are just as many (if not more) posts about problems with SEAK's and other custom builds than there are SAR-2's. Bottom line, most AK's are going to need the wrinkles ironed out, be it a pimp daddy SEAK or a ho SAR.

Wait and see what happens in a couple of weeks or maybe a little longer.  Arsenal Inc will be coming out with stamped rifles in 5.45, hopefully with some nice folders.  Arsenal USA may or may not ever get there new 74 out, who knows with those dudes.  Also, ORF just annouced their milled 74s.  There will be alot going on shortly and I can't wait.

I agree, the SARs are rough, but just look close to make sure the Front Sight and Gas Block aren't canted.  Even if they are, it'sa simple fix.
Use the following site to aquaint your self with Romanians (AKs)

Well I just got done building a nice bulgy '74 kit (shooting it this Sat.), but I really don't see what everyone's problem with the SARs is.  My SAR2 is 100% trouble free, and is a great shooter.  I have zero complaints with it, and I have 100% confidence that it will never let me down.  I'm hoping my Bulgy build gives me the same kind of confidence but I don't see one damn wrong with a nice SAR2...  If you want a threaded barrel/FSB that's easy to add, so is a stockset.  They're quality guns IMO, worst case scenario is you may want to change out the fire control group, big deal...

I had a SAR2 and wish I never sold the damn thing It was a lot more accurate than I ever thought it would be. The only problem I ever had with it was the mag release lever was stiff as hell  Is there a way to correct that problem should I get a WASR2 and it has the same issue?

Well, the SAR-2 is the only real factory built AK-74 availible in the US.

The other option is a parts kit built on a reverse engineered receiver.

On my SAR-2s (& SEAKs) I installed an extended mag release from Flash Distributing. Quick trim to length & edge-rounding w/the Dremel and mags come out with a quick swipe of the off hand.

I don't expect to see the WASR-2 rifles until October, at the earliest.
