Has anyone used the TAPCO AK mag follower that allows 5 additional rounds in the magazine?  They say it is for the 5rd double stack mags, but it will also fit 30 & 40 round mags.

Yes, it does successfully convert the 5 round magazine into a 10 round.

Your question got me curious about the larger capacity mags so I just now put one of the tapco mag followers into a 30rd mag and I was only able to load 31 rounds. Makes sense though, the larger mags are already designed to fill up with the maximum number of rounds.

I wonder if they affect the legendary AK reliability at all.  Different followers often do that.  I've been thinking about getting some because I am in need of US parts for an impending MAK90 conversion...

I bought a dozen of the Tapco +5 followers thinking that I could turn my 20rnd tanker mags into 25 rounders....Didn't work I prefer the tanker mags they just seem to handle and balance a little better for me...I was really hoping that the Tapco followers would work but they didn't

Please explain in greater detail for us.  Did they not add more capacity at all?  Did they cause reliablity problems?  Or was there another issue that I'm not aware of?  Please let us know!

Right, please explain.

I imagine the 5 rd mags just don't have enough spring to bunch up and take up the space of the shorter center post, so you can fit 5 additional rounds in a 5 rd mag.  On the 30 rd mags, the spring NEEDS the space of the center post to bunch up on itself, so putting a follower in with a shorter post does no good as the spring takes up all the extra space anyhow.
