Personally I'd go Arsenal Inc. (Nevada, the K-var bunch) based on range reports here and elsewhere. Their AK lineup features old school milled receivers but I'm pretty sure there's a stamped receiver AK74 going to be in their lineup soon. The Arsenal USA rifles have taken quite a beating on the boards as of late, as have their new receivers.  They supposedly have a new AK74 out and about or in the works.

Both companies are great to deal with as far as getting quality parts in a timely fashion, both tend to come across items that other vendors don't get until later, if ever. I think a search might yield a little more info regarding their rifles and folks opinions/experiences, it's been a long time since I spent more than $350 for an AK. Not saying that you don't get what you pay for, rather nothing "special" has really caught my eye. One of the greatest things about the internet compared to actually handling a rifle in a gunstore and making that impulse purchase...
