I "float" the dings out using oven cleaner....yes, the lye really cleans up the wood nicely. Also about 2 days later I "wash" the wood out with bleach. This entire process opens the pours in the wood up, and helps bring up the dings. Also wait another day or so after the bleaching before sanding.

I was'nt sure on the oven cleaner thing. I figured I'd just clean the stock with mineral spirits.

Oven cleaner is DA BOMB!....an old trick taught to me by my father! Removes all the oil that has soaked in over the years!

Also try steaming the spot with a wet cloth using an iron. Just don't leave it on to long.
