a super match is a good deal only if he is going to compete with that rifle. at $1700, it is a good price, but not a great one. lots of guys buy the national, super and ultra match rifles only to find out they can't shoot it or can't take take advantage of the extra accuracy built into that series. thus, they sell them off at a loss to the next shmuck....who generally figures out the same thing a year or two later.
unless your bud is actually gonna enter matches, i think he would be better served with a rack grade rifle at $900 or so. |

...yup....overkill...my .02 would be for a rack grade. Like buying grandma a Vette as a grocery getter.

I suspect he just wants to relive his misspent 'ute....
If he screws up we yell at him to "Fall out"! (That would be: fall out of formation and run around same as it moves forward holding M-14 or M-16 over head and screaming what the DI told you to..."I am a shit-bird", etc, etc...) Maybe I should sell him my Polytech.....for the same price of course....I'll tell him it's a rare preban....hmmmmmmm......... |

yup. they are heavy. all match rifles are. the n.m. stock is also wider than the military issue version. i am not much impressed by s.a.'s quality of late. if your bud really has his mind made up to own an m1a, please steer him towards the older springfield armory production. while it's fun bragging about all thos "n.m." marked parts on the thing, 9 out of 10 shooters would never use the rifle the way it should be used. (and being that we are in america, that's entirely his right to do so!!) |

Well, mine was only an M-16...but, IMHO, it weighed a ton (US) and one-half after 15-20 times around........if I wasn't such a screw up....never sure how that was actually "defined", I wouldn't have dared to ask at the time ..hmmmmmm...at one point I thought it was "character building" |

It's a pretty decent price on a Super Match if it hasn't been fired. Do you know what the USGI parts count is on that rifle? Prices on USGI parts have skyrocketed now that CMP has run out of surplus parts. If your buddy has been lusting after a top shelf M1A, I would go for it.

Ahhhhh the M14/M1a clone rifles.My very favorite rifle . I will go will the others. Unless he is competeing, get a rack grade rifle. I think the wieght will make hime not like takeing it to the range.The M14 service rifle has a nice wieght and balance to it. I have many of these type rifles and is my favorite to take to the range.If he can come up with the other parts I would recommend an Armscorp barrel reciever or and LBR barrel reciever and put the rest on there himself.They both come with the barrel( USGI), reciever and bolt headspaced.Thats really the way I would go.Cheers WarDawg
