Here in the states you can still find Norinco MAK 90's at a decent price $300 to $375.  They are very durable, but a SAR 1-2-3 is always a good buy at $300 or so.

Somtimes I see Egyptian Maadi's in your price range too, but the workmanship I have seen is crappy.

If you can get your hands on Saiga you can convert it to look like and AK and function like an AK very easily.  A new Saiga will run you about $179 in the states.

Just my take on them.

Seems to me those prices aren't too bad. I've seen Romanian SAR-1's at gun shops here for $450 and BM's for $1000. Are hi-cap magazines plentifull over there or are they restricted like they are in some states here?

For 10 rounds you can probably find a WASR from a state-side wholesaler for about $180, then have it shipped. Assuming no Federal mojo between states and the protectorate of PR...

Any problem getting a parts kit into PR? If money was tight, that's the route I'd go. Kits are easy to build, as long as you have access to some basic tools, and are very cheap compared to buying a complete rifle. You can still buy an AMD kit for $105, a pre bent blank for $30.00 and mags for about $10 each. Thats all you need except for blasting ammo.
