The front sight appears to be Chineese,but the bbl configuration and gas tube have me puzzled.

Ok, I guess I don't know anything about those. I'm assuming the barrel is such for grenade launching, although I like how the sight is set back like the AK-shorties series'. What is the rear sight like? Looks very interesting, and a possibly good way to have a peep sight setup.

Yes the Type 81 is equipped to fire rifle grenades as you can see by the pic. As you can tell by the pic it has a hooded front sight, the rear sight is just like on a standard AK.
