the bargainhunter: 3
the crowd: 202
so...i go to my neighborhood (6-8 miles away) sunday morning 205 gun auction because the weekend show was cancelled.
i am zeroing in on firearm number 165...a cherry, and i mean cherry, remington 510 'targetmaster'. thats a single-shot, bolt action .22 rimfire for you folks not into the remington scene. lordy, the chunk of walnut it was wearing was just outstanding. the thing was absolutely unmolested in any way!
as i was sitting thru the auction, a remy 870 express with slug bbl. and rifle sights comes up...new in the box. just the thing for the nephew for christmas (next year, he'll be of age to be afield with us)!
the bargainhunter looks...he bids...he scores!
trying hard to stay awake, i am stunned to see a belgian browning target model stalled $400 below the ones that sold at the last auction. thing is low miles and needs a new bbl. weight to complete it.
the bargainhunter barks a bid..he counterbids...and he scores again!
then, the moment of truth...
the remy 510 comes up...the bid starts at $25...35...50...60...75...85...90...95...
the bargainhunter sits as still as a croc hunter, then he strikes! he holdsup his hand for $100......SOLD! to the good looking bargainhunter in the 6th row!
and the crowd went wild!
the remy had never been out of its' wood. clean as a whistle other than a wisp of lead in the bore and on the bolt face.
i may give up gun shows. i've been doing much better at auctions this year!
now...to find the other nephew a dear gun and cgristmas shopping for the shooters in my wife's family will be done! (b-i-l and f-i-l will both be getting taurus 62's in stainless steel).
i just love cristmas shopping! christmas shopping 'campystyle', that is!
