Someone brought me some Dinars. They had a neat "welcome to the Ba'ath Party" sort of sign as well. But no, nothing that goes bang or boom was allowed, along with "valuble" items.

Not to sound sarcastic, but you can bring back what ever you can get away with.
The military really frowns on this, but it has been a tradition with soldiers since time began, Army rules will not stop this. |

I have a friend who brought back some of those little tan Italian toe-poppers (with the explosive donut removed, of course) from Round I. He has a few of the little ones, about like a hockey puck, and a big antivehicle mine about like a dinner plate.

I was an Army EOD specialist from 68 to 71. My units area of responsibility included the Kansas City hub of the post office. You wouldnt believe what guys tried to send home from Viet Nam.
We picked up live grenades, live rockets, a live claymore mine, and much other assorted live ordnance that the post office caught. It would be interesting to know how much they didnt catch. |

After the 1991 Gulf War,Military collector shows were swamped with captured Iraqi web gear,Berets,uniform pieces.....I remember alot of the stuff was priced really cheap,about a year ago I noticed some of the same stuff on E-Bay going for serious cash.

so...you are saying this gold plated svd a buddy gave me is a no-no?
jeeps home from europe in 50 boxes of parts...my uncle's 'sniper' rifle he smuggled home from the japanese campaign...the amnesty ak my bud brought home from nam...the luger my dad traded for in italy during ww2...all that and more are "the spoils of war". like ober said, regulations and tome in the brig doesn't stop the flow of contraband. once a soldier has stared death down for a few weeks or months or years, violating something as minor as a 'rule' becomes so trivial as to be next to meaningless. so...here's to the warriors and their souvenir hunting! they deserve a few tokens to remind them...and us...of what they went thru. |
