ohio rapid fire builds some nice rifles.
they built a post ban krinkov with a fake can attached bringing the barrel within legal length im having one built now, and it will be finished as soon a f##cken K-VAR gets rear trunnions to Mike so he can finish

and for the red dot optics, id get a Kobra red dot, which will mount on a standard AK side rail mount.

Until the thread auther states he is willing to go the SBR route, I wouldn't suggest an SBR Krinkov. A Krinkov with a fake can would offer no advantage over any other AK if your actually looking for a "practical" AK, because it would be just as long only less accurate. A "K" model AK like the one I suggested will give you the added barrel length, a highly effective muzzle break, and it would cost a lot less.

The most similar AK model to the M4 would definately be the AK-74M.
Both have basically the same barrel length and caliber (16"/14.5")(5.45mm/5.56mm)... Both have 40mm underbarrel grenade lauchers... Both have folding or collapsable stocks... Both have the ability to mount NV devices... And lastly, both are just so damn cool!  |

fistpoint has nailed it, imo.
the ak-74m is most equivalent to our m4 carbine. although the aks-74u, krinkov, offers a length advantage that makes it suitable for cqb, urban warfare and mechanized infantry operations, only the ak-74 offers the range and accuracy to compete with the m4. |

In agreement with campy and fistpoint...
That picture that fistpoint has posted is the model for my AK-74M post sample project... After I get the press weld parts onto another barrel for the right look (first attempt failed using Junker 3 parts) the rifle will be complete as shown in the pic! I have an M4gery too, one of these days I will do a side by side photo shoot. -C |

In my opinion the Krinkov with it's 9 inch barrel is closer to the subguns like the COlt Commando, SIG 552, or HK G36K. If you want something closer to our M4, the AK-74M is a strong possibility like everyone said. I tend to think a tad bit shorter in the AK102/104/105 series. The 12.5 inch barrel is designed to be a tad bit shorter than the fullsize barrel. I also like the ones that have the shortened barrel and front sight moved back.

AK-74: fixed stock, no sight rail, typically wood/bakelite furniture or plum polymer furniture (yes there are all black plastic versions too), typically ribbed top cover, typically pinned on barrel parts, older style muzzle device AK-74M: Folding stock, optics plate, all black plastic furniture, the newest designed internals (slight differences in manufacturing) smooth top cover, 'press welded' (a misnomer but effective term) barrel parts, modern muzzle break (See Ekie's sticky post), and there may be feed ramp/starter bump differences too, but I am not well versed on them. I think that's about all worth mentioning? |

Just so you know, the file you are trying to show as a picture had better be stored on a public server of some sort, not your own personal hard drive. The picture is not uploaded to the AR15.com servers...they don't have the space for everyone's pics...that's why it needs to be on a picture hosting site, or your own personal web space. But it looks like you may be using the hunt101 web site...so I don't know what is wrong.... you can always copy the link that you are trying to use, and put it in your address bar. Hit return, and if you don't see your picture pop up all by itself, you know the link will not work within the post either. -C |

The one I posted is like the one on the top except with a longer muzzle attachment to comply with the 16 inch barrel restriction. Once the assault ban is done I can SBR it and have it the way it's supposed to be. Be nice to have one in 5.56, aka AK102....

Yeah, you all have some real nice looking rifles. I think I'm just going to stick with my plain old Maadi with it's awful finish. I think while it was being finished there must have been one of those force 10 sand storms blowing. I't bumpy and gritty but it works well and I don't have any problems if it gets wet. The rifle just shoot and shoots! Have close to 2000rnds thru it and it has never malfunctioned. That says something about the rifles as well as the AK mags. I have 35 + in very states of cond. from new to USED and they all work every time. Can't say the same thing for my M4orgery!
