My first question is about the fit and finish of the SAR series that most people on this forum praise.

few ak's are fitted like a fine bolt rifle. the romanian ones are rougher than most, but plenty acceptable for the 3 bones or so they cost. the wood refinishes easily. the metal's black oxide finish is so-so, but is fairly durable. overcoating with one of the baking laquuers can make a marked improvement in the looks.

Do they seem to be well made?

other than the trigger snap caused by most of the cheap, american hammer, trigger and disconnector, and the mis-aligned sights that must be eyeballed prior to selecting one, the are pretty stout rifles in the main. i have one with over 15k rounds on it and it's running as well as day one.

Are they in the least bit accurate?

in a word, yes. the sights are the downfall of the ak...as well as access to quality ammunition. while it's no match rifle, a scoped ak can turn in 4" or less groups all day with the ammunition it likes best. even with the short sight radius irons, many shooters can hold 4" groups.

the .223 sar-3 model is the most accurate...about as good as a 16", rack grade ar-15. the sar-2 5.45x39.5 model is close behind with the traditional 7.62x39 doing the 4" or so spec.

on a bad day, with crappy ammo, you will still get 6" or less out of them.
