Verrry nice!  What products & process did you use to get that look.  I am curious because I have a laminate stockset that I will be working on soon.

Does the wood have the Chamelion (sp) effect like the original Russian sets?

Can you explain the measurements of the mix?

Thanks

I love the look you have ther, sometimes this old monitor just does not do the pics justice--got to quite buying ammo and rifles and get one, well someday.

I hate to be annoying, but is the pp==parts per hundred?  Also, where do you find the pigment and all?

Thanks

Looks great Rot, wish I could do something like that. At least my stock SAR1 wood is pretty good.

Wow... that buttstock is awesome. Too bad the handguards are AKM style, or it would be perfect. The Ironwood designs guy told me he would be interested in doing correct Russian-type laminate AK-74 handguards if he could get the proper info on them, but nobody seemed really interested when I posted about it on this forum...

Quoted:
This is tinted varnish, in the following method:
...........................Percent

Spar Varnish...............98.920
Bayer Macrlolex Yellow 6G...0.800
Finos Red 693...............0.125
Finos Blue 1402.............0.155

Heat to 150-180F for 2 hours.  Shake or shear contents for 10 minutes.  Filter when cooled to room temp through 100 micron bag.

There are 4 coats applied, with 000 steel wool, and thinner wash between coats(thinner is blown dry with compressed air) After the final coat 2 coats of a matte clear poly is applied, stirred not shaken(shaken produces air bubbles). There is at least a day inbetween coats.
