Some are using big ones, while others are using little ones.
Ask a veague question... All contries still producing AK type rifles, to my knowledge, have switched to a sub-30 round, 5.45 for the most part, at least for military service (Ishmash in Russia being one notable difference with their Saiga and Veper series rifles). I think the Czech republic is currently issuing 5.56mm AKs due to their new NATO standing. Poland may be as well. China is the other notable difference adopting a new 4.8mm round in their QBZ bullpup and carbine, neither of which are realy Kalashnakovs anymore.... |

russia...5.45x39...also uses 7.62x39, 9x39 for special applications.
bulgaria...5.45x39.5...never completely changed over from 7.62x39. romania...7.62x39...never got very far along in the change over to 5.45. the former yugoslavia...7.62x39. poland...now 5.56x45 after an aborted change over to 5.45x39.5 from 7.62x39. east germany (now unified)...rechambered to 5.45x39.5 and then to 5.56x45 (the "weiger" ak). iraq...7.62x39 india...5.56x45. finland...7.62x39. israel...5.56x45. north korea...7.62x39. china...5.8mm, in process changing over from 7.62x39. hungary...7.62x39, probably in process of changing to the nato 5.56x45. the czecks use the vz-2000 series of domestic built rifles, not the kalashnikov. they are chambering in the nato 5.56x45. |
